Puerta Sur: Tangomoods.

Since the 1950s, South American rhythms that almost always correspond to dance forms have been one of the most important influences on jazz. In the last couple of years, it has been the tango, in particular, that has been rediscovered for various new musical combinations.
The Puerta Sur trio from Zurich, consisting of the bassist Daniel Schläppi, Andreas Engler on violin and the Argentinian singer Marcela Arroyo, employ the tango to create world music that combines European roots – such as Arroyo’s classically Portuguese Fado-schooled singing and Engler’s classical music culture – with innovative new tango arrangements by Schläppi and other fascinating instrumental improvisations, creating an entirely new sonic experience. Subtle and reduced to its essence on the one hand and marked by dramatic tensions on the other, the concept is set to astound spectators as part of the third joint programme “Tangomoods” that will resound at BMW Welt.
