Two contrasting cities united

On 6th February 1958 a plane crashed as it was taking off near Trudering. Of the twenty-three fatalities, eight were from the Manchester United football team that had just flown in from Belgrade and were at the old Riem airport to refuel before heading back home.

Bobby Charlton, one of the surviving members of the team, has often talked about the humanity and warmth that the people of Trudering showed when helping the injured from the crash and how it connected the two cities for ever.

That was the start of the link between the two cities. The projected images at this event show other connections between MANc and MUC, some of which may be unexpected, especially some of the wordplay, which is in German, English and a combination of the two.

Accompanying the images will be great music from Manchester…The Stone Roses, Gracie Fields, Barclays James Harvest, New Order, Joy Division, M People, Doves,Simply Red, The Buzzcocks, Happy Mondays,The Fall, Black Grape,The Bee Gees, Herman’s Hermits, 10cc, The Hollies, Oasis,Lisa Stansfield, Magazine, Mr Scruff, 808 State, The Durutti Column, James, The Charlatans and some others, as well as musical delights from Munich and further away.

Oh, and The Smiths.
